Attik Dance

Creative Dancing in Devonport

Attik Dance provide fun creative dance sessions at the Brickfields sports centre. This is not your typical ballroom-type dance session - it's as much fun as ballroom, but its different, it's very creative and involves moving your body in fun ways to music. To use Attik's own words the aim is 'to stimulate your mind and get your toes tapping, where you can try a variety of dance styles from around the world in a friendly, energetic atmosphere'.

'Time to Dance' sessions, held on Wednesdays, are safe, gentle dance routines that draw on a range of exciting dance styles. Attik say 'Come along, have fun and be surprised by what you can do. No experience neccesary - all welcome'. The classes at Brickfields, which are for both men and women, are led by Jenny Plant, Community Dance Practitioner. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes or trainers. This is a very popular class; in the photo below some of the students had travelled from as far as Wembury in one direction and Liskeard in the other, plus of course there were Devonport students. It's so popular that you will need to telephone and book a place.

Further Afield

Dance for this company stimulates both the mind and body, and in this regard Attik takes the dance programme out of the dance studio and into the places where people live and work to ensure that dance is accessible to all. They are energetic, they specialise in participation and training, and they create fresh inspiring ways of bringing dance into the community, including the education sector, and the provision of vocational training for dancers.

The leaflets of Attik Dance describe how this company 'supports the emerging dance infrastructure in the South West through classes, workshops and employment for dance professionals'. For we residents here in Devonport this is one very exciting organisation to add to our social, recreational and cultural scene.
